Home Sweet Home Entrance to a house in Burano, a small island about 40 minutes from Venice that was historically a fishing village. All of the houses are painted (yearly) bright colors, all different, so the fisherman on their way home were able to spot their house. The tradition of painting the homes continues today. Burano is also known for lace making, although very little of it is done locally any longer.
