Ponte Vecchio The Ponte Vecchio is a Medieval bridge crossing the Arno River in Florence, Italy. Meat butchers initially occupied the shops along the bridge. The present tenants are retail jewelers, art dealers and souvenir shops. Built sometime around 900 A.D. the bridge was destroyed by a flood in 1117. It was reconstructed but swept away again in 1333 and finally rebuilt in 1345. The current structure has survived since then.
